Sara Flounders, the author of “The U.S. Role in Darfur, Sudan,” elaborates in the excerpt, captioned “U.S. Interest in Sudan,” on the benefits to helping the Darfurian refugees. She explains the oil reserves, massive deposits of natural gas, the third-largest deposits of high purity uranium in the world and the fourth-largest deposit of copper. Through much effort by the United States, Sudan’s oil policy remains out of the reach of Americans while the Chinese aide in drilling, pumping, exploration and regulating Sudan’s oil. Along with its resources, Sudan also is one of the most diverse countries in the world. Lastly, the author acknowledges the United States ‘ effort to ‘target’ the central government in Sudan for the pillaging of villages and mass murders of thousands of people at a time. This excerpt from an extensive article is relatively helpful. As much of my research does, this article expands my previous knowledge on the topic of Sudan but in contrast, it reveals the true reasons the United States wishes to be involved overseas: for self-gain.MLA documentation for this article:Flounders, Sara.
