Analysis 2-The U.S. Role in Building Peace in Sudan
In the article, “The U.S. Role in Building Peace in Sudan,” the unknown author provides a brief outline of the peace processes the United States is taking in Sudan as well as the hopeful outcomes that idolizes the U.S. Foreign Involvement. The author clearly knows what he or she is addressing and leaves out no policy, meeting or prayer for peace in Sudan by the United States. They write that the outcome of the policies and advise the U.S. gives Sudan is left for the Sudanese government to decide. After reading the article in its entirety, the author hopes the reader can acknowledge the aid the U.S. has given and continues to give to Sudan. While I understand the United States’ involvement through this article and through reading of different foreign policies, I am able to conclude that I despise this article. Sure, my opinion may seem rash but this article goes on and on and on about nothing. The United States gives aide to the government (as the author describes) but not to the people. The problem within the Sudanese government is nothing new and will remain for years to come and yes, I agree with the policies and effort the U.S. is giving to the government, it is not enough now nor will it ever be. This author states fact and emphasizes opinion. The last sentence of this article speaks to the long road ahead toward peace in Sudan but then, the author winds in his or her opinion, targeting the Sudanese. Also, the author references the atrocities that still occur in Sudan, namely Darfur but only writes ONE sentence about it. NO, that’s NOT okay. The violence and the disrespect for the laws the Sudanese government has is the real issue, an issue large enough to address in more than ONE sentence. This article leaves me with many questions such as “how, directly, is the United States involved?” “What are the “plans” the author speaks of?” “How important is the Sudan issue in the eye of the United States?” “Where are the meetings taking place?” “Why is the U.S. government waiting for Sudan’s response to its policies? Why doesn’t it push the Sudanese government harder?”All in all, before I go off on a tangent about how distasteful this article is, in the author’s defense, it is very well written and he or she must know their facts. http://peacepolicy.nd.edu/2011/04/20/the-u-s-role-in-building-peace-in-sudan/Unknown.
